Bacton Parish Council

Home

Welcome to the Bacton Parish Council website.

Bacton is situated in the heart of rural Mid Suffolk in East Anglia, approximately five miles north of the town of Stowmarket and eight miles from Eye and Debenham, and has been settled since at least Anglo-Saxon times.

The parish is centred on the village of Bacton and includes the settlements of Earl's Green, Bacton Green, Canham's Green, Cow Green and Ford's Green. There also three registered village greens within Bacton village at Tailor's Green, Shop Green and Cow Green.

Parish Councils sit at the most direct level of democracy in England and Wales, being the first tier of local government, and seek to improve community wellbeing and provide better services at a local level. Activities fall into three main categories: representing the local community; delivering services to meet local needs; and striving to improve quality of life and community wellbeing.

The Council serves, and makes decisions on behalf of, the village and aims to keep everyone informed about important issues and on-going projects. There are nine councillors - they are committed to the wellbeing of Bacton and give their time, effort and resources without financial reward.

Councillors are members of the community, elected by the community. Elections take place every four years and the last ones were on the 2nd May 2019. In the event of casual vacancies the Council may co-opt members to serve until the next elections.

Notices from the Parish Council are posted on this website and many, including dates of meetings, agendas minutes, and election notices are also posted to village noticeboards.

The Parish falls within the Mid Sufffolk District Council area - there are links to the District and County Councils in the black block at the foot of each page.
